Learning unit contents

Objects and methods of psychology; brief historical overview; psychological questions presented through several major psychological perspectives: biological, behavioral, cognitive, systemic and humanistic. General overview of psychology.

Topics covered:

  • Definition of psychology (objects and methods).
  • Introduction to several psychological perspectives. 
  • Biological basis of the behavior (Nervous system).
  • Sensation and perception.
  • Consciousness states.
  • Learning.
  • Memory.
  • Intelligence and thinking.
  • Stress.
  • Psychological disorders and psychotherapy.
 
 
 

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Basic Concepts and Psychological Theories: Learning a range of theories and concepts in psychology, including biological, behavioral, cognitive, humanistic, and systemic perspectives.

Main Types of Research: Introduction to the main types of research in psychology (descriptive, correlational, and experimental).

Psychological Disciplines: Through various themes, learning how different types of psychologists work and how they develop their knowledge.

Critical Thinking: Developing critical thinking skills; understanding why psychological questions are inherently complex and why they are approached from different perspectives. Understanding why important concepts such as personality, learning and memory, motivation, or psychological disorders are addressed within different psychological perspectives
