Learning unit contents

This course aims at introducing students to the history and practice of clinical psychology.

  • Beyond theoretical notions, concrete examples will be used throughout the course sessions.
  • A summary and a conclusion will also be offered to students at the end of the term.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

After successfully completing the course, students will be able to:

  • to have a clear and appropriate representation of the history, purpose and contexts of clinical psychology as well as the identity and training of the clinical psychologist;
  • to develop clear, precise and appropriate illustrations of basic concepts in clinical psychology from the various bibliographical sources;
  • to know the main methods in clinical psychology and to appreciate their resources and limitations;
  • to reflect on the benefits and limits of applying the principles of the evidence-based practice to clinical psychology;
  • to understand, know and integrate the essential concepts of each clinical approach.
