Learning outcomes of the learning unit
The internship has to enable the learning of different points: To handle personalized connection with the patient, to fit in a multidisciplinary medical team with respect for the professional identity of every member and to acquire general and hospital hygiene knowledge. The student will be introduced to the idea of medical confidentiality and privacy of data, and will observe them.
The aim of the internship is not necessarily to do technical procedures; however, it has to allow the student to perform basic cares: toilette, hygiene cares, prevent bedsores, measure of blood pressure, beats, breathing, temperature ...
The student will learn to the main principles of injection: respect of the medical prescription, asepsis, sterilization, preliminary choice of materials and its preparation, information and readying of the patient, technical rules, observation and assessment of the outcome. However, the learning of this invasive technics (injection, catheter) is not mandatory and will depend on the judgment of the nursing staff.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Five mandatory and preliminary seminar are organized during the second term.
Preliminary to the internships, students will undergo a medical check-up on the basis of a risk analysis form of the CHU of Liège by SPMT. Students have to be vaccinated against tetanus and hepatitis A and B before the start of their internship. If the vaccination has already been done, a proof has to be shown during the medical check-up (new blood test with dosage of IgM and IgG anti-HbS).

Course materials and recommended or required readings
The nursing internship is mandatory during summer between the 2nd Bloc and the 3rd Bloc of medicine bachelor: To be deliberated at the end of the third year, the student has to have succeeded the internship. The student does not have to hand a written report about internship over, this is the nursing staff who hand its opinion about the student over.
The students are assessed on the basis of an evaluation grid established according to the aforementioned learning objectives.
In the case of unjustified non-attendance at the welcome meeting organized by the hospital where the student will do his internship, the internship itself will be cancelled.
Work placement(s)
The internship, of 10 open days, is taking place during the summer between the 2nd and 3rd bloc.
