The course, which requires active participation from students, focuses on trends in contemporary Italian.
The observation of current Italian productions, both oral and written (press, podcasts, social media, etc.), will allow, after an overview of the topic chosen for the year, the emergence of various phenomena (lexical, morphological, syntactic, or pragmatic) in the "lingua italiana d'oggi."
In 2024-2025, the course will address issues related to gender expression.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
At the end of the course, the student will be able to:
- identify a research question,
- define a relevant study corpus,
- justify the choice of their research question,
- master the concepts related to their subject of study,
- review the literature on the topic (bibliographic research in the field of synchronic linguistics of Italian),
- communicate their research findings in Italian, both orally and in writing.

Further information:
The assessment consists of two parts:
- A written assignment, maximum 10 pages: this includes a corpus analysis, a summary of a scientific article related to the topic, and a bibliography. This assignment must be submitted in paper form and emailed to the professor by a date agreed upon with the students, no later than 48 hours before the oral exam.
- An oral exam during which the student will present their research to the professor using a PPT-type presentation (10 minutes). This presentation will be followed by a Q&A session on the work. At the end of the exchange, the student will hand in a copy of their presentation to the professor.
The evaluation criteria will be communicated to the students during the course. The criteria will include the quality of the language, the relevance of the research question, the justification of the chosen corpus, the rigor of the analysis, the representativeness of the examples, adherence to citation standards, the application of concepts discussed in class, and the relevance of the answers to the professor's questions.
