Learning unit contents
This course of Dutch Synchronic Linguistics A will be devoted to the question of the realization of spatial relations in Dutch from the perspective of cognitive linguistics, on the one hand, and to the development of scientific writing skills, on the other.
In the theoretical part, we will analyze different types of spatial constructions (posture verbs, placement verbs, movement verbs, "caused-motion" constructions) from a contrastive and a mutlimodal approach, pinpointing the learning difficulties that these constructions may represent for French-speaking learners. For the analysis of these constructions, we will adopt an inductive method inspired by corpus linguistics. Students will be invited to use electronic corpora and to build Excel databases.
In the practical part of the course, we will study the formal characteristics of the scientific register in order to develop students' writing skills in this field.
These different contents will allow students to take an in-depth linguistic look at certain aspects of the functioning of Dutch.
