Learning unit contents
This course presents several approaches to the study of English historical linguistics. We will discuss on how the study of the history of the English language has evolved in terms of topics and methods. Newer approaches are focused on, such as the interaction between English historical linguistics and frameworks or disciplines such as psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics, corpus linguistics and construction grammar
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Upon completion of the course, students will master the theoretical models discussed in class, and they will have acquired methodological skills
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Very good knowledge of English; good knowledge of linguistics.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The class will include both theoretical lectures and interactive sessions.

A list of recommended reading material will be made available to the students.
Written exam. The final mark will take into account the students' level of English, their mastery of the theoretical material studied in the class, and their ability to develop an original scholarly argument in written form.

The course will be held during the first term (Monday, 3-5 pm). The first session will take place on Monday 26 September 2022 in room 5/6.
