This course is for beginners and is organized around units:

  • introducing oneself, talking about family, describing oneself and others, describing a typical day/week, situating and describing objects, le voyage ... 
Themes related to work and professional life will be tackled in the second year of the master. 

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

To acquire a good basic command of Dutch and the essential structures of the Dutch language.
This course aims at developing the four language skills: listening and reading comprehension, oral and written expression.

This course is a solid basis to the course 'Basic Dutch 2' (second year master) that will focus on the language in a professional context.
 

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

There are no prerequisites.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Learning ativities such as:

  • roleplaying
  • conversation and discussion exercises
  • reading and understanding of texts
  • listening comprehension of audio and video documents
  • vocabulary assimilation
  • grammar drills
  • writing short and simple texts (noet mandatory)
 
At home (see 'Planning' on Lol@):

  • Different exercises to prepare each week (articles, videos, grammar exercises...)
  • Preparation for the continuous evaluation (test) 
A regular study is necessary in order to reach the expected level (A1+/A2)

Additional information:

Face-to-face classes (30 hours during 1 semester (february - may))

2 hours / week: attending the class is higly recommanded. Students are expected to do their homework for each lesson.

Additional information:

  • Exam in June:
 

Written exam consisting of vocabulary (of all units + Basiswoordenschat) and grammar, a listening test, a reading test and a written expression.

Oral exam on the topics discussed in class. Registration happens on Lol@. Students who fail to register on time will not be allowed to take the oral exam.

--> A specific file with al the information about the exam will be posted on Lol@ before the exam period. Students are expected to have read and know the information about the exam.



 

  • Evaluation during the semester (continuous evaluation):
1 test: vocabulary of the units + 'Basiswoordenschat' + grammar 






  • Exam in augus:

Students have to retake all parts of the written exam. They do not have to retake the oral exam if their mark is 10/20 or more. 

The test of the contiuous evaluation will not be taken into account. The weigh of the part 'grammar + vocabulary' will be increased. 
 





  • Division of the global mark
 

Written exam in June : 13/20

- Vocabulary and grammar : 7 pts

- Listening comprehension : 3 pts

- Writing exercice : 3 pts

 
Oral exam in June : 4/20 


Continuous assassment : 3/20

IMPORTANT NOTES
A written document with the precise exam guidelines will be posted at the end of the semester ('Directives') on the Lol@-platform and discussed in class. All students are expected to read this document and be aware of the guidelines. 

If students are absent on the day (planned in the planning of the courses available at the beginning of the semester, cf. 'Planning') of a test for the continuous evaluation, they will be allowed to retake it only if they send a medical attest justifying the absence in the course of the week.

If a student asks a '0' or is absent for any part of the exam, his final mark will automatically be '0' or 'A' (absent). 

Global marks under under 10/20 (in june and august/september) will be rounded down (9,9/20 -> 9/20).
