Schedule
Units courses prerequisite and corequisite
Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program
Learning unit contents
The TU is made up of several compulsory modules linked together in such a way as to progressively equip the student, both in terms of didactics (tools, reference system, skills, devices, etc.) and methodology, so that he/she can design teaching-learning activities based on research in science didactics, which he/she will implement during his/her placement at the Haute École.
Course content :
- Common core science references and their guidelines
- Investigative approach; research approach
- Educational resources, course preparation, etc.
- Axes of the Common Core reference framework: the 4 aims of science teaching; transdisciplinarity, transversality
- Didactic research: didactic principles and methodological issues specific to scientific awareness and science teaching; epistemological obstacles and learning issues
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
At the end of the course, students will be able to:
- explain the main didactic concepts and principles of science teaching and scientific awareness;
- analyse a teaching resource using the theoretical insights covered in the course ;
- identify one or more learning nodes related to the teaching-learning of science; shed light on this with the help of research in science didactics (at the level of future teachers and pupils);
- appropriate institutional, educational and science didactic resources with a view to developing a teaching-learning system for future teachers at Haute École (cf. seminar of the UE 'critical analysis and integration work').
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
- Minimum knowledge of the education system of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation; of the reference framework for science and the knowledge, skills and competences to be acquired as part of the Common Core;
- Excellent command of the scientific content covered throughout compulsory education;
- Good command of the French language.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
A variety of methods are used: lectures, practical exercises and work in small groups, reflection on a reading portfolio, building a portfolio, etc.
Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)
Blended learning
Further information:
Most of the courses will be face-to-face; hybrid mode may be used if required.
Course materials and recommended or required readings
Platform(s) used for course materials:
- eCampus
Further information:
Course notes and useful references available on the eCampus institutional platform.
A reading portfolio containing elements of research in science didactics (books, articles, papers, etc.), discussed during lessons or suggested for further study.
Exam(s) in session
Any session
- In-person
oral exam
Written work / report
Continuous assessment
Further information:
Ongoing formative assessment
Creation of a portfolio (collection of work)
Work - report
A portfolio will be compiled of the work and reflective approaches developed throughout the course. It will include at least the presentation and analysis of a didactic resource (research article, didactic work, communication, etc.) relating to a problem and its possible use during the 'Didactics and training sites' course in the form of a teaching sequence to be tested (in connection with the 'Pedagogical strategies' unit ZFEN0012-1).
Certificative assessment
In-class
Oral assessment
The EU assessment will consist of a general presentation of the portfolio and more specifically of the chosen resource, its analysis and how it can be used in the classroom with future student teachers.
Assessment criteria
- Complete and effective presentation of the portfolio
- Clear presentation of the resource chosen and the teaching sequence constructed
- Depth and relevance of the proposed analysis
- Relevant use and application of science didactic concepts
- Correctness and quality of the teaching language (French)
Work placement(s)
The observations made during the observation period in the Common Core classes will be used in the UE (in conjunction with the UE 'Didactics and training sites' ZFEN0001-1).
During the courses of the UE, the students will practise designing didactic activities in preparation for the placement that they will carry out in the Haute École, in connection with the didactic axis chosen and in the light of research in science didactics.
Organisational remarks and main changes to the course
Some parts of the course will be common and others more specific to the subjects covered (chemistry, physics or biology).
