Learning unit contents

The preparatory research work, is the first part of the Master's thesis. Students have to formulate their research project for their master's thesis with the help of their supervisor. Students can either take part to the studies that are carried out by the supervisor or create their own project with the help of their supervisor.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

  • Formulate a research problem in a sufficiently precise way and assess its relevance;
  • Consult and analyse literature related to the subject;
  • Formulate a research hypothesis;
  • Propose an outline of a methodology,
  • Reflect upon analyses (statistical or otherwise) which could be carried out on the data collected;
  • Assess the feasibility (including in ethical terms) of the research.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Meetings with the advisor will help students to define the scope of their research, to develop hypotheses, and to define their methodology.

Students will simultaneously participate in a cycle of cross-cutting dissertation support seminars. These seminars aim to train students in more general and cross-cutting approaches and methodological aspects (principles of bibliographical research, principles of scientific writing, ethical procedures in place, etc.). NOTE: preparing a research question and methodology specific to the dissertation, as well as the definition of various stages of progress remain the student's responsibility, under the supervision of the advisor.

Participation in the cycle of seminars is strongly recommended for students in the Masters in Psychological Sciences. Some advisors may make attendance compulsory.

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)
