Learning unit contents
In most cases, the content of the Master's thesis, Part 1, will lay down the foundations for the work to be done during the second year of the master programme, although this is not set in stone: in some cases, students can - for various reasons - choose a different topic for their thesis.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Formulate a sufficiently preciseresearch problem and assess its relevance;
Consult and summarise the relevant literature ;
Formulate research hypotheses ;
Propose a draft methodology ;
Consider the analyses (statistical or other) that could be carried out on the data collected;
Assess the feasibility (including ethical feasibility) of the research.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Meetings with the promoter will help students to define their field of study, develop hypotheses and define their methodology.
At the same time, students will take part in a series of seminars providing cross-disciplinary support for the dissertation. The aim of these seminars is to train students in more general and cross-disciplinary methodological approaches and aspects (principles of bibliographic research, principles of scientific writing, current ethical procedures, ....). PLEASE NOTE: The development of the research question and the specific methodology of the dissertation, as well as the definition of the various deadlines for the progress of the work, remain the responsibility of the student, under the supervision of the promoter.
Participation in this cycle of seminars is optional but strongly recommended for Logopaedics Masters students. Some promoters may require compulsory attendance. Students are therefore advised to check with their promoter.
Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

Further information:
The assessment will be based on a written assignment as specified in the 'Regulations for the Preparatory Work for Research' of the Masters in Logopaedics. The assessment will be carried out by the promoter.
Work placement(s)
Organisational remarks and main changes to the course
The choice of subject for the preparatory research work is made via a dedicated interface, listing the subjects proposed by the various faculty promoters, and according to a procedure defined at the beginning of the academic year. Students may also propose a topic themselves.
