Learning unit contents
Students will translate a variety of authentic texts (in terms of subject matter, style, function, target audience, etc.) written in Spanish into French. Some of these texts will be chosen according to the students' TFE projects and interests.
Following on from the Theory and Practice of Translation from Spanish into French I course, the course will aim to give students greater autonomy in their search for scientific sources. The reading and analysis of translational texts will enable students to further enrich their Spanish-to-French translation strategies and develop their ability to produce, orally or in writing, a metalinguistic reflection on their own practices.
The role and limits of AI may also be addressed occasionally.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
By the end of the teaching unit, students will be able to
- identify translation problems specific to the texts they are called upon to translate ;
- seek out the appropriate translational sources to explore the issues raised, in order to 1) apply the most appropriate translation strategies to the text in question, and 2) write translation commentaries based on the sources consulted.

Students are required to submit a translation dossier, consisting of :
- on the one hand, a translation of an unseen text (approx. 500 words) written in Spanish and not yet translated, chosen by the student according to his/her interests (but different from the text that is the subject of his/her TFE) and
- on the other hand, a translation commentary (approx. 1000 words), drawing on at least three scientific sources, to be assessed for quality of writing and articulation.
During the January session, the student will defend his or her file orally in a 15-minute interview with the professor (25% of the total grade).
