Learning unit contents
This course will be centered around different countries through a comparative approach on labour markets. Studying the evolutions of employment, its structuration, tackling the question unemployment and female employment in Europe, we will focus on various countries and see the effect of public policies on those topics. National regulation policies as well as the effect of economical liberalism, and more broadly capitalism, will be at the core of this course. An historical depth will enrich discussions: the evolution of the labour market throughout 20th and 21st century are key to understand contemporary challenges.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
- You will practice oral, reading and writing skills in English.
- You will gain knowledge on sociology of work. At the end of this course, you will be able to identify international and national variations, their historical depth in a globalized context. You will understand the structuration of labour market in Europe, unemployment and
- You will develop your sociological analysis, understand and analyse complex work transformations.
- You will gain key HR skills, such as negotiation. This course will be very useful professionally, in order to have a better understanding on each party's interests and have a thorough overview on change in work.

Individual Research Paper
You will write a research paper on a topic of your choice. It will be based on a qualitative interview of a person (worker, unemployed...) that you will choose and conduct. The paper and analysis will highlight dynamics of labour market (seen in class or not).
