Learning unit contents

This course will allow students to integrate knowledge from different Bachelor's and Master's courses - distinctive and non-distinctive in clinical psychology - into the practice of clinical psychology. They will therefore be led to understand their knowledge in a transversal way.

More concretely, the course is structured around the following modules, in continuity with what will have been taught in Part 1 of the course (PSYC5915, in Master 1):

- Clinical psychology today

- Clinical reasoning

- The clinical interview

- The clinical relationship

- Case conceptualization

- Cross-disciplinary practices in clinical psychology

- Evidence-Based Practice

- Statistics at the service of the clinic

- Oneself as a clinical psychologist

- Supervision

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

  • Develop the student's ability to apply an Evidence-BasedPractice (EBP) approach in the context of the 4 acts of the clinical psychologist, taking into account the relational context inherent to any clinical encounter.
  • Develop the student's capacity for autonomy in the application of this approach.
  • Develop the student's professional identity.
  • Train the student to be in a reflective practice, in particular through the completion of a portfolio.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

The content of the PSYC1008 and the PSYC5915 courses is a basis on which the development of this PSYC5915 course is based (PSYC5915 is also a prerequisite to PSYC5916). Also, the content of the MOOC "Psychologist and speech therapist: EBP at the service of the patient" (Units 1 to 6) is also to be known to fully benefit from the learning of the course PSYC5916.

A good knowledge of statistics and psychometrics is required: it is useful to review the material of your courses in psychostatistics and introduction to the theories and methods of measurement in psychological sciences.

Good knowledge of documentary research is also required: it is worth reviewing course material on this subject.

  • Ex cathedra course (in person and/or remotely)
  • Practical work (in person and/or remotely including - for instance - flipped classroom and e-learning)

Practical work and exercices

Attendance is taken during practical work and exercise sessions (in person and/or remotely). Attendance at practical and exercise sessions is mandatory because some of the learning targeted during these sessions cannot be acquired in another context.

Examination

The final score is based on

- Group work with oral presentation outside of session

AND

- A written exam which consists of a first part with closed questions (multiple choice questions or generalized true or false type questions or open short answer questions; out of 20 points) and a second part with open questions (on 20 points).

To pass the assessment, the student must obtain a score of at least 10/20 in the group work and the written exam.

> If both parts are passed, the overall score will correspond to the average of the two scores.

In the case of a final grade with a decimal from 0.5 to 0.9, this final grade will be rounded up to the next unit if the student participated in at least 0.5 to 0.9. 80% of exercise and/or practical training sessions. Thus, attendance during practical work sessions and investment in the exercises will also impact the grade obtained for this course.

> In the event of failure in the group work only, the student will have to present a make-up work in the second session.

> In case of failure in the first part of the exam (multiple choice questions or generalized true or false questions or short-answer open questions), the second part (QO) will not be corrected by the teacher and a mark of 0/20 will be awarded for this second part. The final mark will correspond to the average between the mark of the first part (QF) and the mark of 0/20. The student will have to represent all the parts in the 2nd session.

> In case of failure only in the second part of the exam (QO), the final mark will correspond to this insufficient mark and the student will have to represent all the parts in the 2nd session.

This grading system makes it possible to reflect through the mark the different levels of knowledge among students who have passed or not the first part on the QF.

A collective session for consultation of the copies will be organized upon registration within 15 days following the announcement of the results. The expected answers for the second part (QO) will be explained to the students present at this session. The precise terms and conditions will be disseminated via eCampus and MyULiège.
