Learning unit contents
The PESU0017 course provides a framework for the design, implementation, evaluation, and scientific reporting of a concrete adjustment made to the course on which you worked during the first semester (see PESU0016 course).
By the end of the PESU0017 course, you will be able to:
- Distinguish between the different sections of a scientific article in pedagogy (knowledge);
- Implement adjustments in your teaching practices (skills);
- Collect and analyze data to assess whether the adjustment had the desired effects (skills);
- Communicate about the adjustment using appropriate pedagogical language in a manner that formally resembles a scientific paper (skills);
- View your teaching practices as subjects of study and transformation worthy of interest (attitude).
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Formasup aims to make you develop five competencies (CREER model) in connection with your specific teaching context:
- Design coherent training courses;
- Implement the designed course (resources, tools, technologies, etc.);
- Teach/conduct/support learning;
- Assess students' learning and provide them with feedback;
- Regulate the quality of your teaching through documented reflective practice.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
As it focuses on regulating your teaching practices, particularly through the collection of objective and subjective data in a course you are responsible for, the PESU0017 course logically requires that you be actively engaged in a teaching activity at the time you take this course.
You must also have successfully completed the PESU0016 course.
Finally, you need a reliable, high-speed internet connection, as the work is primarily conducted online.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The few synchronous sessions of the course systematically analyze the structure of a scientific article so that participants can model their own efforts in investigation, data collection, result analysis, and writing on this structure.
The adoption of this scientifically oriented approach in the field of teaching and learning is achieved through three categories of activities:
- Through presentations, discussions, and application exercises, you will become familiar with tools and techniques for collecting and analyzing objective and subjective data. This data is closely linked to a reflection on elements of your teaching, where you question their effectiveness in terms of student learning and the environment in which it takes place. You will use proposed pedagogical models to guide your investigations and analyses. You will collect your data in your classroom and submit it for critical review by the instructors and other participants.
- You will regularly produce individual work for which you will receive feedback (either collective or individual) from the instructors. This feedback will allow you to improve your work if necessary. The activities to be completed are explained during or at the end of the synchronous sessions.
Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)
Remote course
Further information:
The few group sessions for the PESU0017 course take place on Tuesdays from 1:30 PM to 5:00 PM synchronously via the Teams platform (this applies to both the in-person and online versions of the program). It is important that you participate in these sessions, and the exact dates will be communicated to you in January, as the PESU0017 course runs from February to May. These group sessions are supplemented by regular individualized support to help you complete your project. Additionally:
- You will have access to an online learning platform that includes activity instructions, references, resources, and communication tools.
- Active and regular participation is required: you commit to completing the required tasks according to the provided instructions and within the given deadlines.
Recommended or required readings
Platform(s) used for course materials:
- eCampus
- Microsoft Teams
Further information:
The online learning space for the PESU0017 course is hosted on the eCampus platform. It is regularly updated and contains the documents used during the remote sessions (notes, PPT presentations, articles, etc.).
Assessment methods and criteria
Written work / report
Further information:
The evaluation consists of writing a regulation article. To do this, you will implement a regulation in your teaching and collect objective and subjective data from your students to measure the effect of this regulation on various aspects of their learning experience. Through this writing process, which involves rigorously questioning your teaching practices, you will also demonstrate that you have effectively applied the theoretical frameworks studied through pedagogical activities, discussions, and readings.
Your work accounts for 25% of your final grade in the Formasup program (i.e., 25 points out of 100). The minimum passing grade for this assessment is 10/20.
The evaluation for this course takes place during the June session (or in August for the second session). You must submit your regulation article by the deadline that will be communicated to you. Additionally, the regulation article must be included in the appendices of your portfolio.
Work placement(s)
The course does not include a formal internship. However, the exercises in data collection and analysis, directly related to your concrete teaching practices and their improvement, can be considered a particular form of internship within your own classroom and with your own students.
