Learning unit contents

The educational practices are not only individual professional practices: they have consequences on the efficiency of the action of the teacher/trainer, but they translate or convey a global vision of the ends of the education. The course investigate the relationship between the socieltal demand and the teacher's practicies.

The "Pacte d'excellence" initiated by the previous Minister of education is a process in which all the educational leaders and the citizens are invited to think the School of the 21th century.

Students  and will combine three types of social speeches on the educational practices: the media speech, the scientific speech and the political speech. The media speech will serve as starting point of the analysis. Students will created laws on the educational system en French Speaking Belgium. These laws will translate their whishes for the school of the 21th century.

The objective of the course is to allow the student to position or to reposition him/herself as citizen and as professional.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

At the end of the course, the students will have to be able
-To investigate an educational issue by referring to the theories/results of the education sciences
- To promote educational quality practices
by adopting a reflexive approach
by analyzing the stakes and the societal effects of his(he) practices
- To spread information from research in education sciences
by transmitting a clear and complete information adapted to the characteristics of the aimed public
by using methods adapted to the contents and to the public
by assessing the societal relevance of the information

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Prerequisite: YTRA 9002-1 Memory in Adult Education or YTRA 9003-1 Teaching Memory  
 

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Learning activities will depend on the number of students.

Ideally, 16 decrees are written per group of 4-5 students.

The drafting of the decree is conceived as an integrative work where the student uses his knowledge in educational sciences and his.her ability to do scientific research on a new topic.

Students will also learn, depending on the role they have chosen, group facilitation techniques, or speaking in a large group, for example.

Finally, they will have to show their ability to make an oral argument on a topic related to educational policies. Their argument must be consistent with current scientific knowledge on this subject.

Further information:

Three aspects will be assessed: the decree, participation in parliamentary simulations and argumentative work. It is mandatory to complete the 3 parts to obtain a grade for the course.

A deficiency for one of the 3 parts causes a deficiency for the course.

First course : September, 21st 2024, 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM, amphitheater Trifac 3 (B33).
