Learning unit contents

Normal child development and semiology will be presented. Diagnostic and treatment of common pediatric diseases will be developped. Specific aspects of rare but severe diseases will be adressed. Along the developmental origin of health and disease theory, principles of preventive pediatrics will be treated as well as congenital and malformative pathologies.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Students should be able to conduct a pediatric anamnesis and clinical exam, taking specific developmental aspects into account. They will be able to identify common pediatric diseases as wel as red flags for severe and/or acute diseases. Diagnostic reasonning is particularly important. The student should know the applications and limitations of medical exams. The general principles of treatment should be known.

Normal human physiology/biochemistry and general principles of semiology
