Learning unit contents

The internship aims to acquire the fundamental knowledge and skills in hospital neurological practice. It is based on daily hospital activity, in the neruology ward and in the emergency department.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

This course should allow you to:

Know the management of emergency situations:

-          Infectious meningoencephalitis

-          Stroke

-          Status epilepticus

-          Guillain-Barré syndrome

-          Myasthenic crisis

-          Mental confusion syndrome

Know the fundamental principles of clinical management of the following pathologies:

-          Infectious and immune diseases of the central nervous system

-          Secondary prevention of strokes

-          Epilepsy

-          Sleep and wakefulness pathologies

-          Peripheral nervous system pathologies

-          Dementia syndromes and diseases

-          Hypo- and hyperkinetic movement pathologies

-          Genetic pathologies with neurological

Acquire the fundamental skills of communication with the patient, his family, the care team and colleagues

Acquire the fundamental ethical skills required by neurological practice

Acquire the basics of the organization of health care and its economy.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Those that the medical degree implies.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Learning is based on the principle of mentoring.

The candidate is trained through direct supervision by an experienced neurologist and through interactions with supervisors and the team as a whole.
