Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program
Learning unit contents
The course takes the form of a series of lecture-debates given by actors and analysts from the world of cultural policies and institutions, both in Belgium and abroad. The timetable and programme are set at the beginning of the academic year (occasional changes are possible due to the availability of speakers).
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
The objective of the course is to raise students' awareness of the interactions between politicians and cultural institutions; to shed light on the general themes and practical methods which govern production and cultural management in large institutions (operas, orchestras, theatres, festivals, publishing houses, cultural centres, etc.); to put students in touch with major players in these institutions.

Further information:
Continuous written assessment.
Attendance at lectures is compulsory.
After each session, students write a critical report of 2 to 3 pages (excluding bibliography, Times New Roman 12, line spacing 1.5) including :
o A detailed presentation of the speaker: selection and prioritisation of information (5 points).
o A summary of the presentation: selection and prioritisation of information, structure and accuracy of content (5 points).
o A personal reflection based on what was said at the conference: relevance, presence of at least one source, 'originality' (5 points).
5 points will be awarded for form (style and syntax).
The report must be submitted in electronic format (PDF) on the eCampus platform within two weeks of the session concerned. If the report is more than three days late, it will no longer be accepted.
The end-of-year assessment will be based on all these reports.
Absence from one - and only one - conference will be tolerated, provided that it is justified in advance by e-mail. In such cases, the student will be required to produce a paper based on a reference article (see bibliographic list below).

Because the course is basically an annual conference-debate series, active participation at all sessions is essential.
