Learning unit contents

History of comparative linguistic. The Indo-European languages. The Proto-Indo-European phonological system. The Proto-Indo-European roots theory.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

By the end of the course, students will have a general idea of the breadth of the Indo-European language area.
They will know the components of the Indo-European inflected word and the relationships between these components.
They will be able to describe the etymological equivalences seen in the course.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

There are no prerequisites, but some familiarity with the grammar of a classical language is a great advantage.

The course consists of ex-cathedra oral lessons.
