Learning unit contents
While the General Histology course taught in BLOC 1 primarily addressed the cellular and tissue organization levels, this specialized histology course aims to deepen the understanding of how tissues are organized within organs. Indeed, this subject will be a key step in the students' learning process, as it will enable them to grasp how different types of tissues collaborate and organize to form functional organic structures. This understanding is crucial for comprehending the basics of physiological and pathological processes.
The main objective of this course is to guide students in establishing a connection between the histological structure of an organ and its physiological function. The knowledge acquired will allow them to describe and explain the relationships between the various morphological components of an organ and the roles they play in its overall functioning. By focusing on the hierarchical organization and specific interactions between tissues, the course will provide the necessary tools to interpret the functional characteristics of organs within a clinical and biological context.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Each chapter covers the general organization of the relevant system (cardiovascular, lymphoid, urinary, digestive, etc.), providing information on both morphological and functional aspects.
An exhaustive list of learning outcomes, categorized by topic, will be available through the online course on eCampus, detailing the specific objectives to be achieved.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
The concepts introduced last year in the course of general histology must be acquired.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The practical sessions consist of both online and in-person activities (in the microscopy rooms). Specifically, three 3-hour sessions are organized on Teams, and additional remote activities will also be offered.
Participation in online sessions are mandatory. Insufficient participation, as determined by the instructor, may affect access to the exam.
Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)
Excathedra courses
Practical works : face-to-face and online
Course materials and recommended or required readings
All resources are available on eCampus
The examination will focus on the knowledge aquirec during the course and during practical work. Two examinations will be organized. Overall rating : 2/3 THEORY, 1/3 PRACTICAL WORK
Work placement(s)
Organisational remarks and main changes to the course
A broadband connection is ideal to visualized videos and digitized slides of the online course.
