Learning unit contents
Current debates in Prehistory, in particular for the Palaeolithic period. Based on current themes, the course also deals with different theoretical and methodological aspects of prehistoric research and the evolution of cognitive abilities via archaeological artefacts.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Stimulate thought on the potential of archaeological assemblages for understanding long-term changes, human behaviour and cognition, and evolution.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
A basic understanding of Prehistory (cf. bachelor courses) is preferrable.

Seminars on specific themes or material.

Evaluation takes place on the basis of the following modalities and criteria:
- active participation in the seminars
- a presentation prepared by the student on a particular topic (including the work performed in its preparation)
- a paper written by the student about a particular topic. This paper will form the basis of an oral exam (exam session in June).
