Learning unit contents

An entrepreneurial Project-Thesis is based on the analysis of a complex management problem that arises in a company or organization and that is related to the teaching objective chosen by the student. It must be carried out according to the standards of a scientific document. The student must carry out a detailed diagnosis and analysis, collect and process relevant information using an appropriate method and finally identify concrete solutions.
Very present in the company, the student devotes himself/herself to the development of his/her project, to the analysis of the management problem, to the elaboration of recommendations, to the implementation of the decisions made in consultation with the Steering Committee of the project in the company. In addition, he/she regularly puts the subject into a more academic perspective over time, develops a reflexive view of the evolution of his/her project and the actions that he/she implements, and progresses in the drafting of his/her Master Thesis.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

The skills that are developed and evaluated by the Master Thesis are :

  • Strategy: establishing a strategy to optimize the value chain of a company, organization or project.
  • Implementation: implementing the daily management of a company, organization or project.
  • Quality and performance control: planning and implementing performance and quality control in a company, organization or project.
  • Communication: communicating effectively about your company, organization or project, both internally and externally.
  • Adaptability: adapting one's managerial practices to the needs of a constantly changing world.
As the thesis is an individual test at the end of the Master's program, the five skills will be evaluated during the defense.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

The prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program.
The "Preparation for Master Thesis & Internship" course is a prerequisite.
The course of "Méthodologie du Mémoire / Master Thesis Methodology " is a corequisite.
As long as the student is not in the graduating cohort, this activity cannot be included in the student's annual program.

Detailed rules, agenda and much more on http://mythin.hec.ulg.ac.be

In addition to being original and wide-ranging, the topic must be related to the teaching objective chosen by the student.
It must be validated both by the concentration leader and by the Master-Thesis Committee.
The student must write a Master Thesis and defend it orally before a jury. The presentation is in English.
For a Project-Thesis, the Master-Thesis jury is composed of a supervisor (a member of the teaching staff), a reader of the Project-Thesis (a member of the teaching staff), a mentor (a manager or officer of the company or organization where the project-thesis is being carried out) and a moderator.
The student completes a self-assessment grid on http://mythin.hec.ulg.ac.be.
The company mentor completes an evaluation grid on http://mythin.hec.ulg.ac.be.
The final evaluation grid completed by the jury is visible to the student after the Master's deliberation.
The complete regulations are available on http://mythin.hec.ulg.ac.be.

Organisational remarks and main changes to the course

During the second quarter of Block 1 of the Master, the student chooses his or her project topic. This choice can be made in 2 ways:

  • Either the student proposes himself/herself a topic that he/she will have already validated with a mentor in the company and the concentration leader;
  • Or the student chooses, when possible, a topic in the "Project thesis" portfolio constituted by finality and obtains the agreement of the mentor in the company and the concentration leader.
Master Thesis topics are subject to the agreement of the concentration leader and of the Master Thesis Committee constituted within the School. The Master Thesis Committee meets at the beginning of May to determine the composition of the jury.
Any student who has not submitted a Master Thesis subject validated by the concentration leader before the Committee meeting will not be assigned a jury and will therefore be unable to defend his/her thesis the following academic year (in accordance with article 40-1 of the regulations for studies and examinations).
