Learning unit contents

  • Course description
The current crisis underscores the urgent need to transform our economic system. Addressing climate change, protecting biodiversity, regulating the global financial system, preserving social cohesion, eradicating poverty, and combating socio-economic inequalities are just a few of the critical challenges we collectively face. In response, numerous voices are advocating for a rethinking of the role and structure of firms. Approaches range from stricter public regulation of the corporate sector to voluntary CSR initiatives.

Some companies go even further, fully integrating social and environmental concerns into their core priorities, often reshaping their business models around "strong sustainability" goals. However, beyond the rhetoric, it is crucial to examine these models closely-not only to understand their underlying principles and evaluate their potential-but also to identify their limitations and the obstacles they encounter.
