This physical geography course is divided into two distinct parts (Climatology and Geomorphology):
1) The climatology part of the course is given by M. Fettweis
2) The second part of the course, given by G. Houbrechts, deals with the basic notions of geomorphology. Different themes are discussed:
- The large units of the relief (physiographic units), topographic structural forms, the evolution of the relief at different time scales.
- The mass transport processes: screes, landslides, avalanches; landslides; creep and solifluxion; runoff; soil erosion.
- Karst phenomena: dissolution processes; climatic factors; karst forms and deposits.

To understand the major mechanisms of geomorphology, namely: the evolution of the continental relief (forms and processes), karstic phenomena, mass transport and runoff.
To identify on cartographic documents, aerial photographs, or digital terrain models the relief forms following erosion.
To reconstruct the evolution of a continental relief at different time scales.

Geomorphology (15h theory + 20h practical work)

The practical work of Geomorphology (20 h) focuses on the analysis of topographic maps, aerial photographs and digital terrain models.
The theoretical course and the practical work are completed by three days of field work.

Theoretical course and practical work of each party: Written exam. Special attention will be given to all documents illustrating the notes and PowerPoint presentations of the course.
To answer questions related to the fieldwork, students will be able to consult their personal notes.
The calculation of the final grade is based on the following distribution: theory 50%, practical work 25%, fieldwork 25% (including the reports on the field days)
The deliberation score is unique and each party has a 50% share in the deliberation. However, if the result in either party is equal to or less than 8/20, it prevails and constitutes the overall grade for the course.
