Learning unit contents
The course discusses in details the different concepts on which Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) are based. The course is divided in 3 parts :
- Part I : Fundamentals (fundamentals of satellite-based positioning, main GNSS: GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and Beidou, reference systems and frames, time scales, orbits).
- Part II: GNSS observables and their modeling (Different types of measurements made on GNSS signals, review of the errors sources and their modeling with focus on atmospheric errors and on Space Weather effects).
- Part III: Positioning techniques and their applications (Different positioning modes: absolute, relative or differential positioning, real-time or post-processing, use of code and/or phase measurements; main modern positioning techniques and their applications with focus on high precision positioning techniques and on phase amibuity resolution).
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
The main objective of the course is to give students the necessary material in order to be able to use GNSS mainly in the frame of high accuracy applications (centimetre and sub-centimetre) in Geophysics and in Geodesy. Students will be able to assess the reliablility of positions measured by GNSS and to identify the origin of possible problems with the measurements.

Additional information:
The evaluation is carried out in the form of an oral exam with written preparation covering the theoretical material covered during the course as well as the exercise resolutions carried out during the practical sessions.
The preparation sheets only serve as support to help the student during his oral presentation (presentation plan, equations, figures, etc.). Indeed, it is essentially the oral presentation that is evaluated: the student must demonstrate that he has understood the different concepts on which he is questioned.
On the day of the exam, students must be present at least 10 minutes before the scheduled time. Students arriving later than the scheduled time will not be accepted for the exam and will receive a grade of 0/20.
