Learning unit contents
This course is dedicated to the interdependencies between energy and transport. Using a combination of dedicated registered online seminars and face-to-face guest lectures, the students will get inside into:
- An overview of the energy and transport sectors, historical context, and current challenges.
- Energy Sources and Technologies: Exploration of various energy sources (fossil fuels, renewables, nuclear) and their associated technologies.
- Transportation Modes: In-depth analysis of different transportation modes (road, rail, air, maritime) and their energy requirements.
- Energy Efficiency in Transportation: Strategies and technologies for improving energy efficiency in transport.
- Innovations in Energy Storage: Examination of emerging energy storage technologies (batteries, supercapacitors, etc.) and their impact on transport.
- Electric Vehicles (EVs): Comprehensive study of electric vehicles, including battery technologies, charging infrastructure, and market trends.
- Alternative Fuels: Discussion on alternative fuels such as hydrogen, biofuels, and synthetic fuels for transportation.
- Intelligent Transportation Systems: Exploration of smart and connected transportation systems, including autonomous vehicles and traffic management.

- Synthesise knowledge from guest lectures into a comprehensive report.
- Conduct a literature review and draft a synthesis paper on energy and transport innovations.
