Learning unit contents
This course is designed to provide a forum for exchanges with practitioners specializing in French as a foreign language.
It is linked to the theoretical "Didactics of FLE/S" course, and addresses a number of specific didactic issues raised in the day-to-day teaching of French as a foreign and second language:
- the use of digital technology and generative AI in the FLE classroom,
- the didactics of francophone cultures,
- theater in FSL,
- development of oral skills,
- vocabulary,
- conversation tables,
- games
- ...
Part I
This course will deal with specific didactic issues relating to the integration of digital technology and the development of oral skills in the FLE classroom.
It will present...
- the principles, characteristics and variety of digital and generative AI use in the language classroom ;
- their linguistic and cognitive advantages and limitations for language learning;
- their challenges and implications for language teaching objectives and methods;
- the ways in which they can be used in a French as a foreign and second language classroom (in the classroom or remotely).
- oral communication and interactions.
Part II
The course covers various aspects of the didactics of culture in the FLE classroom: from discussions of relativism and culture shock, to various aspects of Belgian culture (humor, Belgian identity through literature, comics and cinema, the French-speaking world, etc.), to play and theatrical activities in the FLE classroom.
Over the course of the sessions, the course will focus on the conditions and issues involved in "didactizing" culture in the FLE classroom, and then, within the framework of thematic sequences, deal with very concrete approaches to Belgian culture, particularly French-speaking culture.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Part I
Enable participants to :
- master applications and generative AI for pedagogical purposes;
- identify the added value of using digital technology and AI in the FSL classroom;
- discover pedagogical resources and tools for peer-to-peer exchange and collaboration;
- create your own online resources, activities and interactive exercises;
- put theoretical knowledge to the test by confronting it with more empirical thinking;
- consider the different types of skills (written, oral, lexical, phonetic, grammatical, communicative, intercultural...) to be worked on using digital technology in the FSL classroom;
- develop a reflective and critical posture among participants with regard to content, methods, activities and tools, particularly digital ones, in an FSL course.
Part II
Students should be able to consider in a critical fashion the problematics linked to the didactics of culture.
Students should learn about the practical elements necessary for preparing the content of a course based on one or more aspects of Belgian culture in the framework of a class in French as a foreign language
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Part I
Should have knowledge of basic computer skills (word processing, e-mail, Internet navigation).
Part II
Participants should possess a minimum level of knowledge and/or experience concerning the didactics of French as a foreign language
They should be familiar with certain basic elements of French and Belgian culture (historical familiarity, literary familiarity, etc.)
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Part I
After reflecting on the impact of digital technology on the teaching/learning of French as a foreign language, students will discover a series of tools that can be used to question the class and check what each student has learned, as well as to stimulate exchange and collaboration between peers, both orally and in writing, inside and outside the classroom. Numerous examples of concrete applications will be shown.
They will then be invited to create original activities using digital technology and generative AI.
Several sequences from the MOOC "Moi, prof de FLE" will also be used.
Part II
After having attended several lecture classes and some conferences of invited speakers, students will be asked to interact in small groups and with the teacher.
