Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program
Learning unit contents
The objective of this training, both theoretical and practical, is to enhance the essential skills needed for optimizing search and critically evaluating scientific information in the field of biomedical sciences. It aims to enable the effective use of various resources and tools available both in libraries and on the web.
The knowledge and skills acquired during this training will be valuable throughout the academic journey and professional career.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
This training will enable students to determine the extent of information needed and access the needed information effectively and efficiently.
This training involves a two-pronged approach:
- a theoretical part, which will enable students (i) to describe the interest and functioning principles of the different resources and tools serving to optimize scientific information retrieval, and (ii) to emphasize the importance of critically evaluating information before its use;
- a practical part,designed to allow students to (i) test and become proficient with these tools, thereby gaining the autonomy needed to address diverse information requirements throughout their studies and future professional careers, and (ii) develop a critical approach towards evaluating available information.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
There are no prerequisites, even if computer literacy and a good knowledge of scientific English features are major assets.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course is organized to ensure active participation from everyone.
It will consist of in-person classes, practical work, and preparatory activities.
