Learning unit contents
This course provides a summary of the Plant Biology courses on the schedule of blocs 1 & 2 of the studies of Bachelor in Biology. The aim is to provide basic knowledge to students who followed a different cursus so that they are able to understand the other Plant Biology courses on their program.
The course consists in two main parts. Part one is based on 3 keywords (the title of the course) : 'Biology', 'Plant', 'Pluricellular'. These words are used as a guideline to explain the specific traits of plant cells, tissues, and organs. Functional aspects are included such as photosynthesis.
Part two describes important groups such as algae, mosses, ferns, gymnosperms and angiosperms. Special emphasis is laid on evolutionary aspects of vegetative organisms and reproduction.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
The aim of the course is to give basic knowledge in plant biology, so that students can understand the course of Plant Physiology that is on their schedule for the second quadrimestre.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Basic knowledge in cell biology.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lectures and practicals
The theoretical part will consist in ex cathedra lectures, complemented as often as possible by other media or material (video, numerical resources, etc.).
Practicals are organised in 4 thematic half-days on photosynthesis, plant anatomy and reproduction.
