Learning unit contents

This course is intended to study through practical and field activities a topic concerning the production, the feeding and nutrition of livestock. As examples, some activities carried out in previous years:

- Participation in an experiment conducted in the context of animal research in the laboratory,

- The determination of biomarkers of intestinal health in pork or poultry,

- Propose rations for cattle for increasing feed autonomy in farms.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

The course aims to teach you how to use your knowledge to solve a problem in the field of animal production using methods such as animal experimentation, data analysis and interpretation, the synthesis of information so as to obtain correct conclusions to a scientific hypothesis or a question on the field.

At the end of the course, the student will have the skills to :

  • Formulate and solve problems in the field of animal nutrition and production
  • Critically evaluate data and draw scientific conclusions;
  • To work effectively within a group.
This course contributes to the acquisition of the skills listed below

  • Diagnose an agronomic process in technical terms
  • Adapt an experimental protocol or a sampling plan on the basis of a given hypothesis and interpret the results
  • To develop an experimental plan or a sampling plan based on a hypothesis formulated, and to interpret the results (a certifying evaluation)

Organisational remarks and main changes to the course

The written reports must be sent via email at latest on the last day of the lecturer period in December of the academic year. Late reports will not be considered and an absence mark will automatically be given.
