MODULE 8: Professional Identity
In the supervised practice relationship as well as in the patient/therapist/clinical psychologist relationship, self-knowledge and professional identity are essential. Teaching remedial educators and clinical psychologists to observe themselves in their work with patients is essential to providing quality work. The second part of this module focuses on the relationship between the practicum supervisor and the remedial teacher/clinical psychologist (through the relational model of supervision (de Haan, 2012) as well as the practicum supervisor identity (i.e., taking stock of one's practice as a practicum supervisor, one's knowledge, one's personal style and goals).
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
- To have knowledge of one's professional identity and supervisory style
- To teach speech-language pathologists and clinical psychologists how to use knowledge of one's professional identity in their clinical follow-up with patients/clients;
- Work on parallel processes in supervised practice and teach supervisees to use them in their clinical follow-ups.
