Learning unit contents

The course will delve into comparative analyses between the Belgian regions.

 

It explores the methods of comparative analysis in political science:

- Approaches to comparative analysis of political regimes (N)

- Approaches to comparative analysis through case studies (n)

 

Case studies:

Science policy

Development of statistical infrastructure

Role of senior officials

Budgetary management

Forms of social dialogue

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Develop a comparative approach to policy analysis and public administration;

master the different tools;

Understand the complexity of Belgium through an inductive approach.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Students must write a 2-3 page summary for 5 texts that they will discuss directly with each other.

For the exam, students build a reading portfolio based on their summaries and a personal review of the parts of the course.

This document will be presented during the spoken exam (January 2023) : the document is sent at latest 2 days before the exam.

Lectures are organised once a week on the basis of a series of articles and texts (English) to be read in advance.

Personal research carried out in preparation for the examination will contribute to the appropriation of this subject and will allow for a personal approach.

Oral examination: a presentation of the report and questions on this report.

Evaluation : Summaries and discussions on the texts during the seminar (60%) - discussion during the examen on the basis of the final report (40%)
