Learning unit contents
The seminar has a dual objective: practical and methodological:
On a practical level :
- provide students with occasional guidance on the organizational aspects of their internship and dissertation,
- provide technical support in the completion of their internship, internship report and dissertation.
- review the main stages of social science research, according to students' needs and expectations,
- expose students to research in the social sciences by practising writing a scientific article on one of the research topics covered during the Research Support Seminar (SEMI0731-1) they attended the previous academic year.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
At the end of this seminar, students will have received the tools and advice they need to:
- organize their academic year by completing, in addition to their courses and assignments, an internship and a thesis,
- meet FaSS deadlines (see the schedule on the "Rules and Forms" page of the Faculty website: fass.uliege.be/reglements),
- structure and write their dissertation and internship report,
- write a scientific article on a research project previously carried out by a group of 4,
- organize the submission and defense of their dissertation.

The seminar will take place over ten sessions throughout the year, and is designed to be resolutely participative and dynamic.

Additional information:
The evaluation of the seminar will be the synthesis of two elements:
- The writing of a scientific article to be completed by groups of 4 students and handed in by February 27, 2024 before 11:59 pm via the Ultra platform (formerly eCampus): 18 points out of 20,
- active participation by students throughout the year in the various sessions: 2 points out of 20.
Assignment - report
The assessment is based on the writing of a scientific article of 5 pages max. excluding bibliography and appendices, based on the content of one of the research projects carried out as part of the Research Accompaniment Seminar (SEMI0731-1) in Master 1.
The article must be written by a group of 4 people (the same group or a new group as the one formed during the Research Accompaniment Seminar (SEMI0731-1) in Master 1). For new students: possibility of writing an article on a theme encountered in their workplace or internship.
The article is structured in 9 parts:
1. Abstract/résumé
2. Introduction/Presentation of the subject
3. Contextualization
4. Analytical framework/Literature review
5. Methodology
6. Layout and analysis
7. Discussion and conclusion
8. Bibliography
9. Appendices
In the second session, evaluation will be based solely on the writing of the article by groups of 4 students. Submission procedures will be identical to those for the first session.

Organisational remarks and main changes to the course
First session: Tuesday 19/09 from 1:30 to 3:30 pm (see course schedule).
The seminar will be held face-to-face during Q1 and remotely during Q2 (Tuesday from 1:00 to 3:00 pm (see course schedule)).
