Learning unit contents

These theoretical courses are university and interuniversity, that they can be joint with other faculties of medicine. In this course code, students will have:

1) The "Fisrt Hour Quintet". These courses are given annually for the 1st block and concern topics related to the public health emergency and address current knowledge and recommendations on:

  • Cardiac arrest, malignant arrhythmias, and chest pain (acute coronary syndrome)
  • Respiratory failure
  • Major trauma
  • Poisoning
  • Stroke
2) Thematic courses, also on block 1 and 2. These courses provide learning by system and concern the main pathologies with which specialist doctors in training will be confronted in emergency services. These courses also allow the learning of care pathways and students will be able to have a vision of the overall management of pathologies and thus prepare each patient as well as possible for the rest of their journey.

3) Theoretical courses specific to emergencies and concerning the learning of triage, the NIHHS score, blood gas analysis, capnography, ECG or even a legal module (Block 1); management of the agitated patient and extra-hospital module (block 2)

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

At the end of this learning (block 2), each student will be able to:

  •  Know the topics covered
  • Know how to recognize emergencies in terms of public health
  • Integrate knowledge into professional practice
  • Discuss these concepts during its learning by tutor
  • Apply the recommendations in his active practice

Organisational remarks and main changes to the course

Classes are given according to a schedule provided by the secretariats and can be in each of the partner faculties. Some courses can be held remotely. Finally, some modules are taught in the ULiège simulation centre. Additional modules can be added or deleted during the year and according to organizational possibilities.
