Learning unit contents

This course describes the anatomical and physiological elements of swallowing, giving to the students the necessary tools to understand the normal and pathological mechanisms of swallowing, to understand the principles of swallowing examinations, to provide the theoretical bases for the management of swallowing disorders.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Objectives:

-To know and recognize the effector organs of swallowing

-To know the mechanisms of swallowing and the different phases

-To know the neurological control of swallowing

-To know how to relate an anatomical or neurological anomaly to the disruption of a swallowing mechanism

-To know how to describe a dynamic examination of swallowing
