Learning unit contents
he aim of these exercises is to enable students to initiate research on a medieval history question independently and with confidence. As a direct continuation of Heuristique spéciale - Moyen Âge (HIST0270-1), they aim to deepen the techniques and methods of research in medieval history necessary for the development of individual research.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
At the end of this course, students will be able
- to mobilise data from bibliographical directories of narratives sources, regests and inventories of diplomatic sources to good effect;
- to constitute a corpus of sources mainly written but, if necessary, also material;
- to exploit a corpus of sources (translation, interpretation, commentary);
- draw up an exhaustive critical bibliography on a chosen subject;
- synthesise and communicate the results of their research in clear and precise oral and written scientific French.

- Continuation of the methodological reflection on the typology of sources of the Western Middle Ages begun in the course HIST0270-1.
- Collective critical translation of latin sources and individual interpretation.

Written exam in january (20%)
Students will be evaluated on account of a written report in June/August (70%).
The note will be based on:
- the quality and accuracy of documentary research
- the ability of translating and interpretating
- the proficiency in written French

First course (Contact with interested students) : Tuesday 19 September at 10am.
This exercise course is intended for students who intend to make the study of the medieval period their second choice of option. It will be merged with HIST1019-1, of which it will be the "common part". Some course sessions may be shortened or suspended for the benefit of students taking their TFC in medieval history. (Calendar established throughout the year).
COVID 19: In the event of a change in health conditions, the course sessions will be maintained at the time given by videoconference (Teams - access via Ecampus)
