Part A
This introduction to land surveying present in a broad way all the surveying operations (levelling, traversing, survey, setting out) and the associated instruments (levels, theodolite, total station).
Part B
This partim B to land surveying presents complements concerning instruments and other 3D measurments techniques (laserscanning and photogrammetry)
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Part A
- to get a basic knowledge of surveying operations and practical methods - to get a basic knowledge of the instruments - to be able to organise a small surveying work - to be able to exchange with geomaticians
Part B
- to get an advanced knowledge of laserscanning and photogrammetric instruments - to be able to perform a 3D surveying work - to masterise the diverse data process steps
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Part A
The course assumes good knowledge of basic mathematics: geometry, trigonometry, as well as of some elements of general physics: optical and electronic mechanics.
Part B
The course assumes good knowledge of basic land surveying.

Part A
In addition to the theoretical course, practical work sessions are organised (problem-based). These will include field work such as a closed levelling, a traverse and a tacheometric site survey and a setting out.

Additional information:
Each field work session will be the subject of a written report which is graded. A written examination is organsied and eventually, an oral examination is organised. The whole evaluation process is described in the course's overheads.

The evaluation has 2 parts:
- 1 full report + appendices and deliverables (dwg, pdf and .xlsx) by email.
- 1 oral presentation (10 minutes) + 10 minutes of questions
The report should be based on the data initially used for the first report (available, as well as template, on eCampus), paying particular attention to propose
- a minimum of 30 pages + appendices
- the focus should be on 3D scan processing for plan generation = provide a part that can act as a tutorial
- propose advanced quantitative and qualitative analyses supported by various diagrams and graphs (histograms, moustache boxes ...)
- the content AND the form must be particularly well done
- several illustrations must be included in the report
