Job opportunities
Multiple applications, professions and jobs
This specialism is focused on professions directly connected with the needs of our society. The increasing attentiveness to the quality of the environment in all areas of activity in our society is enhancing professional prospects and opening up career opportunities in a wide variety of fields.
Mineral resources
Geomaterials are used in sectors such as construction, mechanics or electronics. Identifying new resources, guaranteeing supply regularity and quality, monitoring the transformation of minerals in metallurgical or ceramic processes and attending to their environmental repercussions: these are the principal concerns of Geological Engineers in this sector.
Mine operation
Close to 500 mining sites are in operation in Belgium, giving this country a global leadership role in the area of high-purity sand and lime. To extract usable materials from raw minerals that are often of very poor quality, engineers have to design treatment circuits that combine grinding and the physico-chemical separation of minerals. These same techniques make it possible to meet our society's crucial needs as regards the treatment and reuse of industrial and household waste.
Geological information technology
Geological information systems, digital imaging, teledetection, geostatistics, finite elements... used to visualise, map and model all the data collected.
