Learning unit contents
The course Biodiversity of the Animal Kingdom belongs to the Zoology module (9 ECTS). This module includes 4 courses, presented along the year as theoretical courses (Th) or laboratory classes (TP) :
§ Course « Biodiversity and Animal Kingdom » (Th et TP) - 3 ECTS
§ Course « Basic concepts in Zoology » (Th) - 2 ECTS.
§ Course « Ethology » (Th) - 2 ECTS.
§ Course « Entomology » (Th et TP) - 2 ECTS
The course of omology represents 2 ECTS. It will be given on lie (ecampus) and in the laboratory during practical classes.
The course presents the biology and ecology of insects as well as morphology and systematics of insects.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Contribute to providing basic training in the student disciplinary skills and techniques in entomology and classification of living.
At the end of the course, students should be able to identify about 15 orders and 100 families of insects using a key to identify and demonstrate sufficient knowledge of the biology of insects.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
None
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Distance learning, laboratory, realization of an insect collection
Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)
Distance learning, laboratory, realization of an insect collection
Course materials and recommended or required readings
There is a syllabus provided. It is also provided online via ecampus.
Each course belonging to the integrated module of Zoology will be evaluated during the academic year with a mark out of 20. Scores for the four courses will be weighted within the integrated module of Zoology according to the ECTS allocated for each course.
The course "Entomology" will have 4 evaluations on four parts which compose it, for a total of 20:
Ø Insect Biology (/ 6)
Ø Insects identifications (/ 6)
Ø Insect collection (/ 6)
Ø Laboratory evaluations (/ 2)
All rules associated to the evluation of this course are presented to the students in the auditorium and are placed on ecampus during the entire academic year.
An oral examination in presence and by individual succession of the students is privileged on the basis of an exchange using the box of insects carried out for the biology and recognition of insects parts. Depending on the sanitary conditions and potential justified impossibilities to be physically present, a distancial alternative way will be organized after contact between the student and the Professor.
Conditions adapted to repeat students will be proposed after consultation with the Professor.
Work placement(s)
