Learning unit contents

Introduction to cultural and historical studies of the Dutch-speaking community of Belgium and overview of intra-Belgian cultural exchanges between the French and Dutch-speaking communities.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Students will gain an in-depth understanding of intra-Belgian cultural exchanges through the analysis of examples of cultural production (including popular culture) and through the study ofhistorical, political, and cultural cases and concepts typical of the Belgian context.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Good passive knowledge of Dutch (reading + listening competences)

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Presentations with slides, discussions

Cultural field trip (mandatory) to Flanders or The Netherlands

Depending on academic and/or cultural events organized during the academic year that align with the course theme: (mandatory) participation in a conference.
