Units courses prerequisite and corequisite
Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program
Learning unit contents
This course consists of about ten theoretical lectures related to descriptive statistics. The graphical and numerical tools summarizing the information available in univariate data are first described. Elementary strategies enabling to quantify and to represent graphically the association between several variables are also studied. Finally, survey sampling is tackled with the main probabilist survey plans. Estimation of means and proportions are tackled in that framework.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
To understand and know how to use basic descriptive statistics tools, including the JASP software; To study the statistical bases of survey theory and to be able to estimate means and proportions within this framework.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Six practicals will be organized to help the students to solve the different types of exercises illustrating the theoretical lectures. For each session, training tests will be made available through the eCampus platform in addition to the exercises to be pepared.
Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)
Blended learning
Additional information:
The theoretical lectures and the practicals will take place during the 1st quadrimester on a weekly basis. They will combine face-to-face sessions, podcasts, Q&A sessions and forums on eCampus.
Course materials and recommended or required readings
The slides, documents and podcasts used during the course will be made available together with the open-source software JASP
Exam(s) in session
Any session
- In-person
written exam ( open-ended questions )
Out-of-session test(s)
Additional information:
The final grade (out of 20) will combine the results of an open-ended written exam (out of 18 points) with those obtained at the end of the first term during a single and final quiz (out of 2 points) to assess mastery of the JASP software.
Work placement(s)
Organisational remarks and main changes to the course
The completion of the theoretical courses and a pre-study of the associated materials are required to access the practical sessions.
