Schedule
Units courses prerequisite and corequisite
Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program
Learning unit contents
The course will be essentially dedicated to the practical realization of a quantitative survey, form the formulation of the basic hypotheses until the production of a short report commenting the main results. The ten ours of theory will be dedicated to emphasize and develop the theoretical elements needed, in particular techniques of sampling and building of variables, such as they were introduced in the course "survey methodology"
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Following skills will be used during the course :
- Scientific literature review
- Formulation of the research question
- Realization of a survey questionnaire
- Choosing an sample
- Fieldwork for the survey
- Presentation of the results
- Writing a paper about the results
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Good knowledge of the course of "survey methodology" : indicators, variables, sampling
Successful completion of the "Survey Methodology" course (SOCI0053 or METO 1015) is a mandatory prerequisite for this course.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Realization of the survey will be led in small groups, under the supervision of Sebastien Fontaine
Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)
Face-to-face course
Additional information:
Lectures will be face-to-face.
The work will be done by the students in small groups;
Course materials and recommended or required readings
Platform(s) used for course materials:
- eCampus
- MyULiège
- Microsoft Teams
Further information:
The course essentially consists of the practical carrying out of a survey. The students must themselves identify useful elements to construct their investigation in the scientific literature, write a draft questionnaire based on these elements, discuss the projects of the other groups, pre-test the final questionnaire and each carry out around fifteen investigations.
No new material is planned as part of the course.
Written work / report
Further information:
The final result will be composed of:
This is a group work, evaluated on the following criteria:
- The oral presentation carried out at the end of the first term;
- The questionnaire proposed at the end of the first term;
- The sampling plan and the completion of the survey;
- Analysis and writing of an article.
Group work is a long process with many steps. This explains that the course is given throughout the year and that THERE IS NO SECOND SESSION for this course. The report must be completed in June because it is impossible to redo all the work over a month.
