Subject of this investigation: the division of educational work in nursery schools, between teachers, nursery nurses and families.

Exploratory interviews and observation in situ, and a review of the scientific literature.

Formulation of a research question and problematisation.

Drawing up a data collection plan (including a presentation of the techniques that may be used).

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

By the end of this unit, students will have demonstrated their ability to :

1. deconstruct common sense propositions in the form of evidence, preconceptions, convictions, etc. ;

2. move from a social problem to a sociological problem;

3. observe habitual or routine practices and detect in them traces of socially situated patterns or models, identify the foundations of these patterns and the societal issues to which they respond;

4. organise documentary and bibliographical research on the chosen theme;

5. read, summarise and extract from an article or theoretical work the elements that are useful for analysing the facts observed;

6. draft a written report analysing the data collected as part of an exploratory approach;

7. contribute to the drafting of an investigation plan with a view to a research project likely to be submitted to a sponsor;

8. argue the theoretical orientations adopted and the findings or diagnosis made.

An individual written report presenting a research project on the division of educational labour in nursery schools.

The quality of this report will be assessed on the basis of the following criteria:

  • formal presentation (spelling, syntax, readability, neatness, number of pages)
  • precision of the research question
  • the coherence of the arguments and the justification of the theoretical orientations; its convincing character
  • the nuances introduced into the problematisation
  • the relevance of the methodological and technical choices made
