This introductory course aims to gradually familiarize you with the discipline of sociology, its authors, and its position within the social sciences.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Identify, memorize and understand the vocabulary of the discipline;
- Know the major authors of sociology, their founding theories, and the paradigm in which they operate (determinism or interactionism);
- Know the elements of the sociological method and distinguish this method from other social sciences;
- Identify the theoretical elements that allow the interpretation of a situation from a sociological perspective
- Select and associate information from popularized or scientific sociological texts covered in the course.
- Ideally, this course will allow you to develop and refine your personal point of view on sociological debates. It may also stimulate your interest in sociology. If necessary, the course will provide you with references to go further.
