Learning unit contents
The course is specially intended for students involved in a master thesis using quantitative methodology. It will cover the various stages involved in planning and interpreting the results of a quantitative study in psychology (choice of statistical analysis, sampling, sample size, etc.). A particular attention will be devoted to the correct interpretation of results and to typical errors to be avoided when analyzing data.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
At the end of the course, students will be able to:
- Plan a study based on quantitative methodology (formulate and operationalize hypotheses, determine sample size, choose experimental design, etc.).
- Select appropriate quantitative measurement tools.
- Organize and clean a database.
- Correctly choose statistical treatments to test hypotheses.
- Properly interpret the results of statistical analyses.
- Show critical thinking in data interpretation.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Students are expected to master the basic principles of descriptive and inferential statistics form the courses of Psychostatistics in the bachelor in psychology.
