Learning unit contents

The Neuroimagerie animale  course is devoted to the discovery of the preclinical imaging research field, focusing to the in vivo structural and functional neuroimaging in small animals (rats and mice). The insights brought by these techniques are constituting the core of the course. Pharmacokinetic bases will be introduced to allow the understanding as well as the review of scientific articles. Three imaging modalities are mainly addressed: positron emission tomography (microPET), microtomodensitometry (microCT) and magnetic resonance imaging (microMRI). The technical aspects concerning these modalities will be briefly explained, and "advantages and limitations" are highlighted for each modality. Data processing is included along with hands on practical applications. Statistical analyses devoted to imaging will be addressed as well.

The aim of this course is to highlight “advantages and limitations” of the in vivo small animal neuroimaging.

The students have to fulfill the following:

  • Perform limited literature search and select two articles;
  • Prepare a critical review of both selected articles;
  • Prepare an oral presentation of one of the selected articles and answer questions;
  • Actively participate and ask quetions during classmates presentations;
 
The assessment will rely on :
  • The quality of the review (/5)
  • The quality of the oral presentation (/5)
  • The answers to the questions (/5)
  • Active participation during courses and questions asked during classmates presentations (/5)
