Learning unit contents

The objective of this course is to familiarize students with psychology by making them aware of the scientific approach of this discipline. The course will aim above all to address key notions of health psychology (e.g., risk compensation, attribution theory), certain health models and their articulation with sports psychology. Students will also be made aware of the relationship that personality can have with sports practice. In addition, students will benefit from lessons on group dynamics. Finally, students will be made aware of the clinical approach in psychology (e.g., prevention) and to technological innovations in healthcare. Finally, this course will present the main currents that have shaped the current landscape of psychological sciences.

Beyond theoretical notions, concrete examples will be used throughout the course sessions.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

At the end of the course, the student will be able to understand the key concepts of health psychology and to differentiate it from sports psychology. They will also be made aware of the nuances that exist between received ideas and ideas resulting from scientific research in psychology (e.g., importance of the scientific method).

He will know the main theoretical perspectives in psychology (e.g., personality) and will be able to understand the different conceptions of psychological functioning. He will have a better representation of the supports that can be used in connection with sports practice.

He will have knowledge from the psychology of health allowing him to understand the issues - for example - of engaging in a sporting activity.
