Learning unit contents

In order to complete students' training in journalism in an empirical fashion, each student must complete two internships (one month each in length) with two different editorial organizations. The first will take place during the first year, and the second during the second year of the Master.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

- Discovery. The first objective of the "stage" is to immerse the student in the daily universe of news (newspapers, magazines, radio, television, Internet, wire services, business news...).
- Imitation. By working with professional journalists the intern can refine his or her training, working under the guidance of a member of the professional staff.
- Participation. During the internship, the intern must quickly show that he or she is capable of producing acceptable work.
- Becoming a professional. Working in an editorial atmosphere, the intern must produce work that meets the requirements of the media outlet he or she is working for (choice of topics, writing style, attitude toward the public interest, ability to meet deadlines...)

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

- Excellent knowledge of the company where the intern will serve
- Curiosity about what's happening in the world
- Mastery of journalistic techniques

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

During the "stage", students will produce work on topics of their own choosing.

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

Length of stage: one month; schedule to be arranged with the company where the intern will work.

Course materials and recommended or required readings

- Each student receives a guide to conduct during internships.

- An internship report
- A report from the internship supervisor
