PHY0048 A and B
Coherent optics and lasers applications
Theory (lectures) : 10h
Laboratory : 15h
The lectures are preferentially given in English.
This optics course is matching the needs of Engineers and Physicists. Physical optics is refreshed. Then, deeper matters are taught.
The aim of the course is to bring an overall view of the application domains and technologies relating to modern optics. In the program, physical optics with coherence aspects including interferences and diffraction are explained.
Concepts are presented in a phenomenological approach with an intuitive physical understanding.
Instrumental optics I
Theory (lectures) : 20h
Applications&Laboratory : 15h
The lectures are preferentially given in English.
This course is intended for students who desire to focus on optical instrumentation basis. An overview is proposed with several applications and related technologies
Concepts are presented in a phenomenological approach with an intuitive physical understanding.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
This course contributes to the learning outcomes I.1, II.1, II.2, III.1, III.2, III.3, IV.2, IV.3, VI.1, VI.2, VII.1, VII.2, VII.4 of the MSc in aerospace engineering.
Coherent optics and lasers applications
Bring an overview focused on polarization and coherence of light with a highlight on modern applications
Instrumental optics I
The main goal is to give an overview of the instrumental optics: from the oldest concepts to the new ages of instruments. Astronomic instruments are often referenced.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Coherent optics and lasers applications
Knowledge of basics in geometric and physical optics (specific courses that are supposed to be given during 1st and 2nd Bachelor)
Instrumental optics I
Knowledge of basics in geometric and physical optics (specific courses that are supposed to be given during 1st and 2nd Bachelor)
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The personal project that is required can cover any sub section of the course (A and B). One a single project is requested.
