Learning unit contents

Introduction and exercices of several plans for animating a philosophical discussion
Explanation of the skills that a philosophical workshop should develop and exercises in order to implement them
Analysis of practices

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Participants will be able to animate four kinds of philosophical workshops:

  • Méthode socratique (Brénifier)
  • Discussion à visée démocratique et philosophique (Tozzi)
  • Communauté de recherche philosophique (Lipman - Sasseville - Gagnon)
  • Méthode AGSAS-Levine
They will also master several tools to lead a philosophical work group, useful methods to develop philosophical skills with different audiences, and means to create their own tools. 

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

No prerequisite.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Participants will experiment the different methods. Then, after discussions on these methods, they will be invited to practice them as an animator. They will also be introduced to exercises designed to practice some particular issue of the philosophical workshop.

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

Attending the sessions is required.

Readings will be suggested in accordance with the methods and skills investigated during the class.
